Many of us believe that we require inspiration before embarking on a new endeavor. However, what happens if that elusive emotional inspiration never strikes? What if you’re not caught up in a captivating whirlwind of ambition to ascend to new heights or to achieve something more significant in life?

I frequently meet people who ask,”How can I discover my true calling in life if I don’t have any inspiration or direction towards a specific thing?” The truth is, people desire to pursue their life’s purpose but they often lack a clear understanding of what that path might be.

Here is what I have learned that has set me free from the quicksand of indecision on which direction to take: It is NOT always about being inspired one way or another because if you are waiting to be inspired, you may be waiting for a very long time.

Here is the key:

It is in the DOING.
Because in the DOING is where you DISCOVER.
And in the DISCOVERY, you get DIRECTION.
And when you get DIRECTION, you get CLARITY.
And CLARITY gives you SPEED.
SPEED takes you to a place of purpose much faster than if you wander around waiting for inspiration to hit you.

Here is a practical way that you can start the first step of DOING:

Take out a piece of paper and write down everything that sparks joy in your soul. Write down things that excite you, topics you love to research, activities you enjoy watching, or skills you admire in others and wish to try. Don’t overthink it. Just write down whatever comes to mind. Once you’ve listed as many things as possible, cut each item into small pieces of paper and toss them into a bowl. Draw one out and begin DOING. In whatever capacity that is possible, just BEGIN.

You see, God doesn’t steer parked cars.
But as you begin to DO, He certainly will give you revelations on which road to take and when to take an exit or a detour.

And if we get off on the wrong path for some reason, He certainly is big enough to gently direct us to the next thing.  He honors those who honor Him by moving forward even when we aren’t 100% sure about what to do.

So, if you’re feeling disheartened and repeatedly telling yourself that you lack the necessary talent or skill to do something meaningful for God, rest assured that is not true.

You were genetically designed to fulfill a unique purpose on this side of heaven. For more than 11 years, I was either in corporate America or working as an Attorney in a law firm. Although none of that ever felt like it was what I was designed to do, I now see that it was just the vehicle God used to steer me to other things. The beauty of it, though is that NONE of it was wasted.
And God wastes nothing with you, either.

I will close with a great quote I once heard that speaks straight to the heart of this: “You may not be doing the thing you are created to do, but it may be the thing that leads you to the thing that leads you to the THING. So, don’t stop at where you are as if it were the destination when it is merely just the transportation to take you there.”

Your discovery, direction, clarity, and speed will follow and find you as you start moving and begin doing. Ask God to deposit some ideas today in your heart. He is faithful and kind and will be with you every step of the way.

Ps. I am so excited to have this blog because my heart’s desire is that people would find a newfound freedom by taking practical steps to wake up areas of their life that have been dormant or stagnant for a long time. Thank you for all of your kind words, emails, messages, etc., that you have given. They have been a great source of encouragement and motivation for me. Until next week!
