You know those people that talk about their dogs like they are humans with real emotions?
Well, I was NOT one of them.
For 45 years, I was utterly perplexed by their fervent attachment to a non-human entity.

All that changed, however, when I fell in love with a four-legged boy named Tucker.
You see, it doesn’t matter which room I enter; he loyally follows.
A constant and devoted presence.
He literally sits and gazes at me, exuding an almost unearthly patience, just waiting for my attention.
And the moment I offer him even the slightest acknowledgment, his gratitude is palpable, and his joy is contagious.

I have come to the conclusion that I am his person.

While he certainly loves others, I am unequivocally his person.  Of course, the rest of my family showers him with adoration, but he knows deep down that I am his go-to. I reject the notion that it is because I spoil him day and night with treats.  He eagerly waits all day for my return, just for a little love and affection.

Last night, standing in my closet, after a busy weekend filled with many events and distractions, I had an epiphany. Tucker, of course, was faithfully standing in there with me, just waiting for me to look his way. Side note: If he could talk, he would have asked me why I wear platform shoes every day…but that’s another blog for another day.

The epiphany was this:
In the same way Tucker delights in just being near me, I realized God delights in US.

He delights in every detail of your life.
In every space and season of life you are in,  He goes ahead, beside, and behind you.
He is in your next place before you are even there.
He carries you when you can no longer walk.
He covers you with His protection and guides you with His wisdom.
He provides for your every need and prepares the path and the people for you to carry out His purpose.
He is READY to listen, to forgive, and to open new doors.
He is not pushy and is ever so patient.
He simply wants you to stand still and KNOW that He is God.

ALL because YOU are HIS person.
He is NEVER NOT in the room you are in.
He is NEVER NOT in the valley or on the mountaintop with you.
All you have to do is remember He is waiting patiently for you to lean back and fully trust that He HAS YOU.
You are His.
